G Cubes Project at Al Mouj Marina

Muscat: Al Mouj Marina hosted a special community event on the 12th and 13th April to create unique cubes made from plastic waste collected by the residents from local beaches and the Sea of Oman.

G-Cubes (or Garbage Cubes) is a global project founded by Harold Reichenbach, who is currently sailing around the world, taking plastic from the oceans and beaches and turning this waste into works of art, which will be exhibited worldwide and sold upon the international art market. Profits from sales go towards projects enabling far-flung communities to recycle for themselves, where presently they are unable to do so.

Each Al Mouj Resident brought three pieces of waste and recorded the location with GPS co-ordinates and a photograph.  The residents then compressed this waste and resin was added. The end results were showcased on 20th April at Marsa Plaza and will eventually be part of the final art piece of 1000 cubes.

The aim of this project is to engage local communities and the next generation, to raise awareness of the amount of waste that is generated and where this can ultimately end up.

A great contribution towards a cleaner environment!
